Association of BRIC Business Schools

On 24-25 January 2008, a suggestion to create an Association of BRIC Business School was made on the Conference “Management education – perspectives in the globalizing world”, held at Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME), Bangalore, India, where CEEMAN President Danica Purg has also participated. Further discussion of the idea was supported at the meeting devoted to the issues of management education development held at the University of Shanghai on 4-7 April 2008.

This idea was actively supported at the State University of Management. Prof. Valentin Afanasiev, Vice-Rector on Science and Associate professor Tatiana Leonova, Director of the Centre for International Programmes from the State University of Management (SUM) actively participated in the above discussions. The Centre for International Programmes at SUM has organized an international conference “Competitiveness in informational society: BRIC-countries experience” on 22-24 October 2008. The conference was devoted not only to the issues of scientific discussion of challenges of social and economic development of BRIC countries, but proved to be a significant event in the Association’s history. The Memorandum of creation of the “BRIC-countries Universities Association” was signed at the conference.

Among the first members of the Association were such Universities as University of Management, San-Paulo, Brazil; State University of Management, Moscow, Russia; Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME), Bangalore, India; National University of China, Beijing, China.

On 31 January 2009 a new agreement was signed in Bangalore. The new agreement specified the title of the Association as “The Association of Business Schools BRIC” and extended the number of participants by inclusion of representatives from the South Africa – University Kuasulu-Natal. The Memorandum was signed by 12 universities – representatives of BRIC countries. It was agreed that the presidentship in the Association will be handed over every two years from country to country. Professor J. Phillip, president of Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME), was elected the first chairman of the Association.

Students of the State University of Management took an active part in Network’s student meetings held in XIME, Bangalore, India in October 2010 and in the Guangzhou University of International education, Guangzhou, China, in March 2011.

The conference of the Association took place in Shantou University on 24-25 March 2011, outlining the first results of the Association’s work and future plans on its development and expansion, as well as joint scientific and educational work of Universities. A new chairman of the Association was elected for the following two years – Prof. Erming Xu, National University of China, Beijing, China.

The next student meeting will be held at the Institute of Management Development, Misor, India, while international scientific and educational conference 2011 at the State University of Management, Moscow, Russia will be a place to discuss questions of BRIC countries development.
