Leaders in Retail, Banking, Oil and Music Start Business Upgrade at BMI

Forty eight executives from leading Baltic, Nordic and global companies began studies at BMI this week under some of the world’s best management educators, seeking to upgrade their business skills and know-how in order to take their companies and careers to new levels of success.

According to BMI Director General Jaunius Pusvaškis, the new International Executive MBA cohort is one of the most diverse and talented group’s in the programme’s 13 year history. It includes managers from five countries (Lithuania, Latvia, Norway, Belarus and USA) working in industries such as retailing, banking, oil refining, pharmaceuticals, IT, telecommunications, legal services, real estate, public administration and even entertainment. They will join the family of BMI graduates who are already successfully leading companies in 30 countries around the world

“Our management regularly sends people to BMI, but I already knew when I graduated university in Latvia that after getting some experience my next degree would be the Executive MBA,” Helmuts Linde, Country Manager Latvia for Philip Morris International, said during a break on the first day of classes. “BMI stands out for the level of educators and participants, which will broaden my understanding of doing business with new insights and experiences,” added Linde, who has 11 years experience.

Among the companies represented in BMI’s new EMBA cohort are global business organizations such as IBM, Adidas, AstraZeneca, Schindler, DeLaval, Novartis and Syngenta. Other executive participants come from some of Northern Europe’s region’s best-known business names, including financiers Nordea Bank, DNB, Danske Bank, Finasta and Lietuvos Draudimas; law firms LAWIN, NORDIA Baublys & Partners and Lewben Family Offices; and diverse companies such as Espersen, Teo LT, ORLEN Lietuva, Euroapothecha, Topo Centras, Grifs, Prewise, Simplika, Alma Littera, Autobrava, Omnitel, Baltic RED and Solaris Baltic. Also joining the programme are the head of the Lithuanian Road Administration and a Vice President of the Lithuanian Free Market Institute.

One participant stands out for the name he has already made for himself in the entertainment world: Jurgis Didžiulis, former lead singer of the group InCulto, currently CEO of Digralis, a company he established. Jurgis said he came to BMI “to gain practical knowledge and insight into successful business models that can be applied to what I do in the music industry and what I intend to do in the future.”

More than 80% of the members of the new BMI EMBA class are top-level or senior executives of their organisations. The remainder are legal and business consulting professionals, or mid-level managers from large corporations with demonstrated high-potential. One quarter are women. All survived a lengthy admissions process which tested candidates’ competence, drive and vision.

The BMI Executive MBA programme (EMBA) is delivered by a partnership of top European business schools, including HEC Paris School of Management, which the Financial Times ranks No. 1 in Europe. Other partner schools are Denmark’s Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Louvain School of Management in Belgium, NHH School of Economics and Business Administration in Norway and Vytautas Magnus University in Lithuania. BMI also works with Asian management education leader Shanghai Jiao Tong University to deliver part of the EMBA programme on-site in China and thus open truly global business horizons.

The BMI EMBA is the only degree programme in the Baltic region accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development with the EPAS seal of international quality. Since 1999, more than 500 business leaders have completed EMBA studies at BMI.
