WATCH THE GALA AND AWARDS CEREMONY LIVE ONLINE ON MAY 18, 15:00-18:30
The Challenge:Future Summit, taking place in Bled, Slovenia on May 14-18, is the culmination of an eight-month-long global student competition on innovations for a sustainable future, founded by Third Millennium Knowledge sustainability lab, Slovenia, CEEMAN, and IEDC-Bled School of Management. The summit will bring together innovative youth, business leaders, educators, government change makers, and media to discuss challenges the world faces in the 21st century.
Since the launch of the competition in September 2009 over 15,000 students from 950 institutions and more than 160 countries have registered on the Challenge:Future online platform, not only competing in the main contest but also participating in weekly and monthly Challenges, hot topic discussions, and supporting competing teams by their votes.
Out of more than 1,600 competitors, the nine finalist teams will deliver their solutions in front of over 100 invited guests and members of the grand jury on 17 May. The 26 finalists come from 16 institutions in 10 countries (Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Latvia, Macedonia, Romania, Singapore, Vietnam, and UK). Invited students will also include representatives of several runner-up teams and of Challenge:Future Youth Advisory Board, as well as selected youth speakers.
To prepare better for the competition finals, the students will first participate in the Challenge:Future BootCamp on 14 -16 May, a series of lectures, discussions, and social activities, as well as work with their mentors on the final presentations.
The Challenge:Future Summit on 17-18 May will host Future Dialogues roundtables with invited keynote speakers and guests from business, academia, NGOs, youth organizations, and media. The event will conclude with an Award Ceremony on 18 May under the honorary patronage of Dr Danilo Turk, President of Slovenia, and with keynote contributions by Joel Barker, world-renown author and futurist, and Donald Johnston, OECD Secretary General 1996-2006.
The award to the Most Innovative School, based on their students activity and achievements in Challenge:Future, will also be announced at the ceremony. Five CEEMAN members are among the nominees for this award:
