The oldest Polish Executive MBA studies, run by Warsaw-based Kozminski University, have just turned 30. They were established in October 1989, when the first MBA course in Poland was started by a group of 42 students, out of whom 27 finished their studies and obtained diplomas. Till 2019, more than 5,000 people have graduated from MBA studies at Kozminski.

The Kozminski MBA curriculum from the beginning was patterned after top American business schools, where Professor Andrzej K. Kozminski (one of the founders of Kozminski University, named after his late father, Professor Leon Kozminski) had lectured for years. The original MBA program also took into account the specifics of the Polish economic and political transformation. In 1993, Kozminski University was officially launched based on MBA studies. Kozminski University currently has a total enrolment of 9,000 students, including more than 2000 international students.

The first Kozminski MBA graduates met with their lecturers and younger colleagues after years, during the 30th anniversary in December 2019. For many graduates, the celebration was an opportunity to share their professional successes, bond with old pals, exchange experiences, and make new contacts. During the ceremony, the "founding fathers" of the MBA program, associated with it from the very beginning, were honored. The Witold statuettes (from the name of Prof. Witold Bielecki, currently rector of KU, the first head of MBA studies) were awarded to professors: Robert Rzadca, Krzysztof Obloj, Andrzej Kozminski, and Witold Bielecki. The statuettes were also presented to several outstanding lecturers, the long-time MBA director of Sylwia Halas-Dej and Pawel Daneyko (in cooperation category).

More than 5,000 people have graduated from MBA studies at Kozminski for over 30 years. As numbers show, 25 percent of them are women. The average age of an MBA student is 35 years, and work experience - 11 years. Statistical analysis conducted by Anna Bielecka, Ph.D., shows how the MBA student profile has changed since 1989. Currently, there are more females (an increase from 20 percent in 1989 to 28 percent today) and more graduates in humanities and economics at MBA studies, while the number of engineers is decreasing. The shares of entrepreneurs (currently 20 percent) and those working for private Polish companies (now 28 percent) among MBA students are increasing. The number of managers from international companies is slightly falling, although it is still the largest group of MBA students (amounting to 46 percent). Only a handful of the public and government sector employees (just 5 percent) attend the MBA program. The age of applicants to the MBA school is also growing: initially, they were mostly 30-year-olds; today, MBA students are rather 40-year-olds.

Executive MBA studies at Kozminski have been recognized for years in the global "Financial Times" ranking; in 2019, they were ranked 61st in the world and 13th in Europe.
