AlmaU Board of Trustees welcomed two outstanding experts

Almaty Management University is proud to announce a significant expansion of the AlmaU Board of Trustees BoT). On April 1, 2024, at the outreach meeting of the Board of Trustees in the School of Management at Zhejiang University, two new members were presented. The AlmaU BoT discussed the strategy and future direction of the university.

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Almaty Management University (AlmaU) visited Hangzhou and Shanghai from March 29 to April 3. BoT meetings are important to AlmaU as the strategy and future direction of the university are discussed and approved. This meeting was particularly noteworthy as Prof. WU Xiaobo and Mr. Asset Abdualiyev, the newest members of the Board of Trustees, attended their first meeting in a new role.

During the visit, hosted by the School of Management at Zhejiang University, the delegation not only focused on the meetings but also explored key local companies and institutions. They visited companies such as Geely, Alibaba, HikVision, and Insigma, and toured the School of Medicine and Zijingang campus. These visits were generously organized by the marvelous team of the School of Management for AlmaU BoT to provide a comprehensive insight into the region's innovation and education landscape.

Professor Xiaobo Wu is the Qiushi Chair Professor of Strategy and Innovation Management, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Director of the National Institute for Innovation Management at Zhejiang University. He is also the co-director of the Zhejiang University—Cambridge University Joint Research Center for Global Manufacturing and Innovation Management. Professor Wu serves as a Board Member of the China Economic and Social Council, a member of the China Scholarship Council under the State Council, and a member of the Steering Committee for Management Science and Engineering Management at the Ministry of Education, China. He is also a member of the National Steering Committee for MBA, a founding member of the Institute for Manufacturing at Cambridge University, UK, the Vice Chairman of CEEMAN, and a former Senior Vice President of ICSB. Additionally, he serves as a board member and advisor for some leading companies in China.

Mr. Asset Abdualiyev is the founder and CEO of Silkroad Innovation Hub, as well as a founding partner at BuildTech VC, both based in Silicon Valley, USA. Silkroad Innovation Hub is a privately initiated technological platform dedicated to advancing and promoting Central Eurasia within Silicon Valley. Concurrently, as a founding partner at BuildTech VC, Mr. Abdualiyev invests in and offers support to early-stage startups revolutionizing the construction and real estate sectors. Mr. Abdualiyev holds a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School and a Master of Science in Business Administration and Management from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. His academic achievements include the Eric Yankah Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Program and School, the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Student Teaching, and the Nurlan Kapparov Graduate Scholarship. His previous professional journey encompasses different roles at McKinsey & Company, TaskRabbit, and BelnTech Ventures, along with advisory responsibilities in the Office of the Mayor of Almaty, focusing on innovation and urban development.

AlmaU is sure that the knowledge, experience, and competencies of two new BoT members will become key factors in the development of the university.
