MCI alumnus Etienne Salborn is one of 25 business school graduates honored by AACSB International (AACSB) - the world's largest management education alliance - as the 2021 Class of Influential Leaders. The annual initiative recognizes notable graduates of AACSB-accredited business schools whose inspiring work serves as a role model for the next generation of business leaders.
Etienne Salborn is a changemaker committed to creating positive impact for people in the most difficult situations imaginable. While still a student in the Department of Nonprofit, Social & Health Innovation at MCI, Salborn founded the nonprofit Jangu e.V. to support orphans in Uganda. Currently, Salborn is chief empowerment officer (CEO) of SINA (Social Inovation Academy).
"My studies formed the cornerstone and gave me the courage to start Jangu e.V.. They also paved the way for the foundation of SINA, which followed in 2015," states Salborn.
Through mentoring and experiential learning, SINA teaches scholars to be self-organized and self-responsible ("freesponsible") and to acquire the skills needed to build their own enterprises. They learn to value their often-disrupted past as a strength and foundation for creating sustainable social enterprises that benefit their communities.
Among other grants and awards received throughout his career, Salborn and SINA won the NGO Innovation Award in 2018 from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Pan-African Award for Entrepreneurship in Education in 2019.

Now in its sixth year, AACSB’s Influential Leaders honorees include nearly 250 business school graduates who have created lasting impact in business and society. All honorees have earned an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degree from one of more than 870 AACSB-accredited business schools worldwide.
