Leading a non-profit organization (NPO) is demanding and it often takes its toll in the form of disillusionment and burnout. Therefore, the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) is launching the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership Development for NPOs in 2020, meant to improve personal performance by strengthening resilience, resourcefulness and confidence of NPO leaders.

Leaders of non-profit organizations (NPOs) often find themselves caught between big dreams and insufficient resources to realize these ideals. While many have sought to lead an organization with fewer bureaucratic demands, they surprisingly discover that NPOs are not exempt from the duties of all other organizations in terms of human resources, finances, compliance.

Therefore, the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) is launching a new specialization stream as part of their Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership Development program in 2020. The Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership Development for NPOs is designed to help these leaders play a definitive role in Africa’s development.

The program taps into USB’s legacy of transformative leadership learning where leaders will learn how to lead themselves, others and their organization in ways which can be described at ethical, responsible and sustainable.

Prof Arnold Smit, coordinator of the PGDip in Leadership Development for NPOs, says the program aims to build your resourcefulness. “In NPOs we find people from all walks of life working together to take care of the most marginalized in society, to preserve endangered plants and animals, and to fight against corruption, human rights abuses and climate change impact. This program will enable you to fulfill your mission, even with limited resources,” he says.

This one-year program has a convenient modular format that allows students to study while they work. The official launch event of this new stream is happening in August 2019.
