PhD students Aung Moe, Min Min Tun, and Selvi Thazin Win from the International Executive School, Strasbourg, will present their research at the Asian Conference on Education 2025 in Tokyo, November 23-28. Their study, "Exploring TikTok as a Learning Resource in Maritime Education: Educator Perspectives and Practices," examines social media integration within the traditionally conservative maritime education field.
This research examines how maritime educators are using TikTok to transform learning experiences in their discipline. The study investigates both the opportunities and challenges that emerge when integrating social media platforms into maritime higher education, a field that has traditionally relied on hands-on experience and established teaching methods.
The findings reveal insights about how digital platforms can complement traditional maritime education approaches, while also highlighting the institutional and professional challenges that educators face when adopting new technologies in this specialized field.
The research contributes to understanding how social media might be effectively utilized in professional education programs, particularly in industries where practical experience has historically been considered essential.
The presentation will take place during the conference, which brings together international researchers and educators to discuss innovations in teaching and learning across various academic disciplines.
