The two selected Visiting PhD students / Post-PhD researchers will benefit from a vibrant research community and world-class facilities at AUS, with a privileged access to a dedicated office space, library, databases, laboratories, and other resources. To help offset travel-related expenses (i.e., roundtrip airfare) and/or accommodation costs on the AUS campus, successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend. Additional support will be provided to cover specific research-related expenses for the duration of the visit. Ideally, visiting appointments should culminate in a collaborative article publication in a highly-ranked academic outlet.

Application procedure

Decisions about the two visiting research appointments will be made on a competitive basis.

Interested candidates should send their up-to-date CV and one-page description of the proposed project they intend to pursue during their visit to the attention of the Chairholder, Dr. Virginia Bodolica (past co-winner of the CEEMAN/Emerald Case Writing Competition), at vbodolica@aus.edu.

All project proposals must contribute to the advancement of research on various aspects of leadership (cross-disciplinary studies of leadership are welcome and highly encouraged). Applications will be considered on a rolling basis and visiting positions will remain open until filled. Some flexibility with appointment dates and duration is possible to accommodate successful candidates’ requests.

Starting date: February 2020

Proposed duration: 3-4 months, ending May 2020

The Said T. Khoury Chair of Leadership Studies

The Said T. Khoury Chair of Leadership Studies was created in early 2019 in the School of Business Administration at AUS in the UAE. The Chair, held by Professor Virginia Bodolica, seeks to develop a well-established knowledge platform in the Middle Eastern region for the generation, dissemination, and promotion of impactful leadership studies, practices, and insights. Leadership is defined in its broadest sense that can embrace different connotations, be a property of a person, team or entire organization, and manifest itself at various levels and across industry boundaries, and cultural and regulatory settings. Currently, the Chair pursues several research projects with an emphasis on corporate leadership (e.g., top management teams and board of directors’ processes and dynamics) through a cross-disciplinary lens.
