"Public Trust and Social Capital" - a unique platform

The IV International Conference on "Public Trust and Social Capital" took place in Almaty on December 13, 2023, within the premises of Almaty Management University. The event was organized by Almaty Management University in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The conference platform provided a unique opportunity for the exchange of opinions, knowledge, and best practices. Distinguished figures from academic circles, government, business, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the media participated in the event as speakers and participants. Representatives from Kazakhstan, Russia, the United States, Finland, France, Turkey, Ukraine, Tajikistan, and other countries spoke at the conference.

The conference moderators were Gulnara Kurenkeyeva, the Rector of Almaty Management University; Danial Saari, the Director of the Center for Political Studies at the School of Public and International Policy at AlmaU; and Kamran Guseynov, Assistant Professor at the School of Politics and Law at AlmaU.

The welcoming remarks to the conference participants were delivered by Asylbek Kozhakhmetov, the Founder and President of Almaty Management University; Sayasat Nurbek, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Daniar Kadyrov, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Information; and Vlastimil Samek, the representative of the UN Department of Global Communications and the head of the UN Information Office in Kazakhstan.

During the first plenary session, current issues in the field of public trust and social capital were discussed. The world-renowned political economist, philosopher, political scientist, and author of the bestseller "Trust," Francis Fukuyama, participated in the plenary session. Mr. Fukuyama emphasized the importance of a high level of trust in society in the face of global challenges.

The conference continued with a second plenary session where Andrey Skuratov, the Director of Research at BISAM Central Asia, presented the results of the AlmaU Trust Barometer research. Asylbek Kozhakhmetov, the Founder and President of AlmaU, provided comments on the research findings. Janat Berdalina, an Honorary Member of the Board of Trustees at AlmaU and an Independent Director at Polymetal International plc., emphasized the importance of public trust from an economic perspective in her presentation.

It is important to highlight the efforts of the staff of the School of Politics and Law and the School of Science Management at AlmaU in organizing and conducting this event. The organizers expressed hope for the further development of constructive cooperation, including the Edelman Trust Barometer, and the hosting of the fifth conference on public trust and social capital.
