Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University, founded by Prof. (Dr) Achyuta Samanta, is a premier educational hub in India. Renowned for its comprehensive professional courses, extensive community outreach, and commitment to humanitarian values, KIIT has experienced unprecedented growth over the past 25 years.

Its transformation from humble beginnings to a globally recognized institution is a remarkable case study in India’s educational landscape. The university’s journey from "Soil to Silver" is truly extraordinary. Today, KIIT spans a vast academic township, featuring 30 lush green campuses, a 2,600-bed super specialty hospital (KIMS), a multi-story central library, a 22-story research and innovation wing, world-class sports complexes, 30 food courts, and more.

Since its inception in 1992-93 as an Industrial Training Institute, KIIT has evolved to offer a diverse array of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It now educates nearly 40,000 students, including 2,000 from 65 countries. The university offers courses in Engineering, Management, Computer Applications, Law, Biotechnology, Medical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Nursing, Mass Communication, Film and Media, Fashion, Public Policy, and more. With an alumni network exceeding 100,000, KIIT graduates are making significant contributions across academia, corporate organizations, civil services, and entrepreneurship.

KIIT has received prestigious accolades, including Special Consultative Status from the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), A++ Grade accreditation from NAAC, and is ranked No. 1 by ARIIA and 16th by NIRF among all public and private universities in India. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 placed KIIT between 601-800 globally and 168th (10th among Indian universities) in the Young University Rankings. Additionally, it holds QS 5 Stars, being India’s first QS 5 Stars rated university in 2021, and ranks 81st in QS World University Rankings for Environmental Sustainability 2024 and 90th in QS Asian University Rankings, Southern Asia 2024. KIIT has also been recognized among the top 6 most impactful universities globally and ranked 1st in India for the SDG of Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10) in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024.

Beyond academics, KIIT has made a significant impact in sports, producing 23 Olympians and earning accolades such as the CII Sportstar Award, FICCI India Sports Award, and Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar 2022 for its contributions to sports promotion. The university serves as the nodal center for the FIFA Football for Schools Programme in Asia.

KIIT’s commitment to societal welfare and reaching marginalized communities is realized through its sister organization, the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). Established in 1993 by Prof. (Dr) Achyuta Samanta, KISS is a pioneering institution that includes a school, college, and university dedicated to the education and empowerment of Indigenous communities. What began with 125 Indigenous students has grown to serve over 80,000, highlighting the transformative power of education in breaking the cycles of poverty and fostering inclusivity.

KISS employs a holistic 3E model – “Educate, Enable, Empower” – providing comprehensive residential education with full scholarships. Recognized as a ‘Deemed to be University’ in 2017, KISS offers postgraduate and doctoral programs across various disciplines. The impact of KISS extends beyond academics to include healthcare, sports empowerment, environmental stewardship, skill development, vocational training, cultural preservation, and entrepreneurship for economic growth.

Its commitment to Sustainable Development Goals is evident in initiatives such as the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) program, which received the 2022 UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Award, and Project Uday, which won the 2023 International Green Gown Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Sustainability.

In summary, the KIIT group of institutions exemplifies a blend of professional excellence and social commitment, adhering to the global goals of ‘Leaving No One Behind.’
