On April 7, 2014 International Academy of Business hosted a lecture organized as part of a joint project made by IAB and kaspi bank Flight over the Horizon*! A series of lectures under this name is being held at IAB between April 7 and 30 as part of cooperation between the bank and the university under kaspi bank’s initiative About Finances in Simple Terms.

Kseniya Yuzhaninova, Director of Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development at IAB, says that the project is fully compliant with the university’s mission to “prepare socially responsible business leaders and dovetails with IAB”s strategic task to become an entrepreneur-centric university.

«To attain this our students need certain skills and knowledge. Financial literacy is one of the first skills that young people need to have to manage their finances correctly and use financial instruments. Another important factor of entrepreneur-centric university is its knowledge internationalization: overseas education should come to Kazakhstan through lecturers, business coaches and teachers with hands-on knowledge. This is why we invite kaspi bank’s top managers to deliver guest lectures at our university. This is an innovative bank and IAB is an innovative university, representing high-quality business education. That’s why we have initiated this joint project », - K. Yuzhaninova says.

The “flight” is conventionally divided into several parts, among them “receiving a boarding pass”, “fastening a seat-belt”; take-off; the flight and turbulence; soft landing and conversation with the aircraft captain. Executive director of kaspi bank Aleksander Yemeshev has distributed boarding passes among “passengers” in the first lecture**.

He also shared secrets of ins and outs of banking; explained how kaspi bank products are generated and how 4P-marketing operates within an organisation.

After the lecture IAB students asked speakers about the bank’s marketing policy, commented on activities on social networks and user-friendly services generating rapid answers, and grew interested in doing a work-placement at the university.

Kaspi Bank representatives said the IAB students were very creative and well-read.

     * An online-test on financial IQ will be carried out as part of the project. The first ten people who will give correct answers in the test will receive a financial literacy certificate from kaspi bank’s Chairman of the Management Board Mikhail Lomtadze, who will give the last fifth lecture. Besides this, all the meetings will be video recorded and broadcast on the websites of both the bank and the university.
** Aleksander Yemeshev graduated from specialist research and educational centre at Moscow State University and Higher School of Economics (Moscow). He set out on his career at Russian Standard Bank in Russia. Now he is a top manager at kaspi bank.
