CEEMAN & Emerald Case Writing Competition Winners

The 2026 CEEMAN Case Writing Competition, organized once again in cooperation with Emerald Publishing, attracted 58 case study submissions written by authors from 18 countries. The judging panel consisted of Leif Sjoblom (IMD, Switzerland), Alfred Rosenbloom (Dominican University, USA), and Shalini Rahul Tiwari (IMT Ghaziabad, India). We are very grateful for their time and expertise in judging this competition.
Winners of the 2026 CEEMAN Case Writing Competition are:

Winner: Holcim Costa Rica: Investing in the Circular Economy, Mauricio Jenkins and Ricardo Fletes Martínez, INCAE Business School, Costa Rica

Mauricio Jenkins is a Full Professor at INCAE Business School, where he has served on the faculty for over 28 years. He holds a Ph.D. in International Economics and Finance and an M.Sc. in the same field from Brandeis University, where he studied as a Fulbright Scholar, an M.B.A. with Distinction from INCAE, and a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Costa Rica. He teaches corporate finance, international finance, and international business in INCAE's MBA programs across Latin America, Europe, and the United States, and has led dozens of executive seminars on company valuation, portfolio management, treasury management, and investment projects throughout the region. He currently serves as Academic Director of INCAE's Executive Master in Finance and has been a visiting professor at the European Business School, Rotterdam School of Management, and Brandeis University.

Ricardo Fletes is a Faculty Researcher at INCAE Business School, where he is part of the pre-doctoral program in Finance and teaches introductory courses in Finance, Accounting, and Data Analysis. He holds an MBA with High Honors from INCAE Business School and a bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC), where he graduated as valedictorian.  He also holds three certifications from the Corporate Finance Institute in Financial Planning, Financial Modeling, and Business Intelligence. Prior to academia, he spent five years as Financial Planning and Analysis Lead for Aliaxis LATAM and one and a half years as a Financial and Operations Advisor for the startup Kleantab.

First Runner Up: Moulding the Future: Scale, Succession and Circularity at Styrocoop, Jelena Filipovic, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Belgrade, Serbia

Jelena Filipović is Full Professor of Marketing at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Economics and Business. Her research and teaching focus on digital marketing strategy, consumer behaviour, platform-mediated markets, and responsible marketing. Her work has been published in leading international journals, including the European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Psychology & Marketing, and International Marketing Review. She has participated in numerous European research and educational projects funded through FP7, Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, and Erasmus+ programmes. She has held visiting teaching and research positions at Copenhagen Business School, IAE Lyon School of Management, Prague University of Economics and Business, and RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, and is a Collaborating Researcher at CICEE – Research Centre in Business Sciences and Economics, Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa. In addition to her academic research, she writes teaching cases published by international case publishers, including Harvard Business Publishing and SAGE Business Cases. She has also served as a judge in international student competitions, including L’Oréal Brandstorm and the AMA Collegiate Case Competition.

Second Runner Up: Privacy vs. Survival: A Strategic Liquidity Crisis at the Azar Landmark Hotel, Fahimeh Hateftabar, FERRANDI Paris, France

Dr. Fahimeh Hateftabar is an Associate Professor of Marketing and Head of the Marketing Discipline at FERRANDI Paris. She holds a Ph.D. in Management Sciences, with a specialization in Marketing, from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Her research lies at the intersection of consumer behavior, tourism and hospitality marketing, services marketing, customer experience, responsible marketing, sustainability, and digital transformation. Her work has been published in leading international journals. She has also developed teaching cases published by SAGE Business Cases on smart tourism, destination management, mega-events, sustainability, and strategic decision-making. Her teaching spans undergraduate, master’s, MBA, and executive programs, with a particular emphasis on research-led and case-based learning.

Honourable Mention: Toxic Talent: When Innovation Undermines Leadership, Darja Bubnova, Riga Technical University, Riga Business School, Latvia

Darja Bubnova is a lecturer, business trainer, and management professional with more than 10 years of leadership experience in operations, procurement, supply chain management, and commercial leadership across the Baltic region. She currently leads an international digital education initiative at Riga Business School and Riga Technical University, coordinating collaboration among academic and industry partners across several European countries. Alongside her professional career, Darja delivers executive education and professional training in supply chain management, negotiations, and operational excellence. She was recognized by RTU students as one of the university’s best lecturers. Darja is currently completing her MBA at Riga Business School and holds both master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Civil Engineering from Riga Technical University.
