As higher education institutions we try our hardest to attract students, give them the best possible education and experiences, and open their doors to the future. But what about after they graduate? Do we wish them good luch, bid farewell, and never hear from them again? Or do we make sure to stay in contact and mutually benefit from the relationship?

As Andrew Crisp, CEEMAN Program Management Seminar faculty member, says, “With growing demand for upskilling and reskilling alumni are set to become an even more important audience for business schools. For many schools, alumni have been either a source of donations or ambassadors for their programmes or both, but increasingly alumni are set to become an audience for further learning.” (article Are alumni about to become even more important?)

As Crisp insightfully points out, “For business schools thinking about retaining their alumni as future learners, there are some important considerations. The starting point is a lack of knowledge among alumni about what is on offer.”

So what can you do today to harness the power of your alumni? Firstly, send them all a nice email and let them know about upskilling and reskilling opportunities at your institution. There is a good chance that they have no idea what you have to offer.

Secondly, sign up for our Program Management Seminar, where we will be going much more in depth in terms of alumni relations, as well as other important topics, such as building a positive learning environment, marketing and sales, handling ethical dilemmas, team work, etc. With most of the schools creating new strategies to keep up with the changing times, it is crucial to work on own upskilling as well.

The next edition of the seminar will take place on 11-13 May 2022
