Alongside IAB team, who will run the full marathon and a 10km distance, International Academy of Business will be also represented by an Ekiden relay-race group of six.
The Almaty Marathon is divided into five sub-routes covering distances worth 42 195 m.; 21 km.; 10 km.; 3 km. and Ekiden relay-race (42 195 m.), which is further split into 6 legs.
President of IAB Assylbek Kozhakhmetov will spearhead the team of his family in completing the Ekiden race!
For IAB students and staff a «healthy lifestyle” is not mere words. The university holds regular sports events, with a streak of wins in the Presidential all-around, the Ice show, ascension to the Big Almaty Peak in a 25-strong group led by the Chancellor; annual cycling races, republican and international tournaments.
IAB’s participation in the Almaty Marathon is not just part of a healthy lifestyle or charitable intentions. It’s also a desire to prove that they can do it.
Financial analyst at IAB Anastasiya Lobanova will be running a 10km. distance.
“This will be the first time that I’m running the marathon. Last year I wanted to run on my own but I missed the registration. At IAB everything is very well-organised and this year I wanted to run straight away. All the more so because I used to do sports before. My training won’t take me further than just a 10 km race. It’s a nice feeling to run with a team. My motivation is to test my strength and prove – first of all to myself – that I can run and that I am in a good shape.”
Chairman of IAB’s Sports Club Baurzhan Tleubayev will test his stamina in the Ekiden relay-race.
“The route has different race distances. The majority runs 10 km. Sergei Brodsky and student Aleksei Fedorenko plucked up courage to run 42 195 м. IAB’s other group of six will participate in Ekiden. It has a difficult route. The 10km race is all downwards and the 5km ones are upwards. But I’m sure we are going to do it!”
Participation in the marathon Courage to be the First fits into IAB’s Healthy Lifestyle Programme 2013-2017. The sports club has a climbing association, a gym; it also offers football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, karate, unarmed combat, Kazakh wrestling and many other sports. The marathon’s charitable cause is also important for IAB because it is a socially responsible university and the funds raised in the race will go to children with cerebral palsy.
Overall, 10 000 people are expected to take part in the III Almaty Marathon. It has been held since 2012.
