A team of faculty members and students of Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) School of Management led by CEEMAN IMTA alumnus Dietmar Sternad is the winner of this year´s annualInternational Online Teaching Resource Library Video Competition of the Academy of Management, the world´s largest and most important professional association of management scholars with over 20,000 members.
The video “The Innovation Challenge at Infineon Technologies Austria AG” produced by Dietmar Sternad together with CUAS Rector & DeanDietmar Brodel, Christoph Wriessnegger, Thomas Kandolf andInfineon Austria´s innovation manager Günther Wellenzohn provides students with the opportunity to explore how a high-tech company in the semiconductor industry can improve its innovation performance. While the first sequences of the video are designed to form the basis for group and class discussions of how to instill innovative energy into an organization, the second part shows the actual approach that the company has taken, including creating internal innovation networks or a highly visible innovation award.
“IMTA was the starting point for me to constantly think about how to create new teaching and learning materials which enable students to solve real-life managerial problems during their courses”, says Dietmar Sternad, who also achieved the first and second (together with Katri Kerem from Estonian Business School) place in CEEMAN´s Annual Case Writing Competitions in 2010 and 2011, “Although there is a lot of effort behind, developing innovative teaching methods really pays off – not only in the form of awards, but especially also through intense and highly rewarding classroom discussions.”
The award was received by Dietmar Brodel at the Academy of Management´s annual meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. The video case has been published by the Academy of Management and can be used for teaching purposes by the Academy´s members from over 100 countries.
