ISM University of Management and Economics will welcome 442 first-year students this academic year. Almost half of these (200) will receive state-financed study grants to cover part of their tuition fee. One in every six bachelor students (56) will study free of charge.
‘This year our university has been awarded the biggest number of study grants of all establishments of higher education. We see that students understand the importance of receiving quality higher education and the need to invest in it. We have been offering the most gifted students the opportunity to study free of charge for several years now. This year one in every six ISM students will be exempt from the tuition fee. Their education costs will be covered by businesses, ISM alumni and partners that participate in the ISM Excellent 100 programme,' Prof. Viltė Auruškevičienė, Dean of Studies of ISM University of Management and Economics, said.
More than half (161) of the first-year ISM Bachelor students chose to study International Business and Communication. This particular study programme is popular because of the shorter study period (3.5 years) and its international profile, as all subjects are taught in English. Other courses chosen by students are Economics, Finance, Economics and Politics, Business Management and Analysis, and Finance and Accounting. As usual, more than 100 foreign students will come to the university to study under exchange programmes.
This autumn as many as 25 lecturers from Australia, Canada, Norway, Serbia, the United Kingdom and the USA will lecture at ISM. Of these, 9 lecturers will come to teach at ISM under the Ministry of Education and Science programme. Other teachers from Australia, Slovenia, the United Kingdom and elsewhere will be personally invited by ISM. This academic year will also see foreign specialists lecturing doctoral students. Three economics and management specialists will come to teach at ISM under the visiting lecturer programme approved by the Research Council of Lithuania.
ISM's Masters programmes have been chosen by 76 students. They will study under the International Marketing and Management and Financial Economics study programmes. More than half of the Masters students, i.e. 44, will have their studies partly financed by the state. ‘There is a growing trend for students to do their masters studies a year or so after getting their Bachelor degree. This shows that students choose their study programmes more responsibly, do some research on the labour market, analyse the need for respective specialists in Lithuania and elsewhere in the world,' Prof. Viltė Auruškevičienė, Dean of Studies of ISM University of Management and Economics, said.
This September saw more than 150 business people start the Masters study programme for executives. It is also expected that the results for admission to Doctoral studies will be announced shortly.
In August this year the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education and Science approved the accreditation of ISM University of Management and Economics as an establishment of higher education. ISM is one of the few universities in Lithuania that received a positive assessment as a result of the first ever evaluation of Lithuanian establishments of higher education organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania.
