A group of researchers and members of PUEB (Poznań University of Economics and Business) Knowledge Transfer Company have co-created an advanced IT tool designed to coordinate donations of supplies provided by society to hospitals. Online platform SupportDlaSzpitala.pl was created pro bono by Clorce programmers and PUEB scientists, using a free license from Salesforce.

It efficiently connects volunteers and donors with hospitals to coordinate help needed in these institutions. Only in May 2020 with two-thirds of Poland’s hospitals have benefited from the online platform that facilitates donating gifts to hospitals, in the form and quantities actually needed during the epidemic.

SupportDlaSzpitala.pl platform consists of two main modules. On the one hand, hospitals can easily report their needs: from small meals or drinks for patients to larger ones, such as masks and volunteering. On the other hand, anyone willing can declare their support in the hard work of medical staff, respond to appeals and offer help. The platform defines the type of assistance and the area in which it can be provided, as well as the time and specific conditions.

The tool developers work together as part of the Virtual Crisis Institute. It is an initiative created and coordinated by the PUEB Knowledge Transfer Company. It is a bottom-up initiative on the basis of an academic think tank with the main aim of quickly generating effective and cheap solutions. It gathers several dozen scientists from over 20 Polish academic centers dealing with epidemiology, economics, management, IT, logistics, psychology, communication and sociology. The scientists associated in it are working on solutions that are socially and economically useful, ranging from the support system for small and medium-sized enterprises and the system for improving the flow of vehicles on Polish borders, to the development of simple applications enabling more efficient operation in a crisis.

Soon, the tool for bottom-up support of health care will be used to fight the effects of the pandemic in Ukraine.  PUEB Knowledge Transfer Company will cooperate in this respect with Hi Tech Office Ukraine using the funds from the Polish Challenge Fund. The tool will be implemented in Ukraine to improve the situation of local health centers.

The PUEB KTC is one of five entities whose projects have been recognized by the Polish Challenge Fund as an important innovation, with the potential to initiate changes for sustainable development in a partner country.
