The first micro-qualification course, "Digital Public Governance", at Riga Technical University (RTU) has successfully concluded. The course was specifically designed for professionals in leadership positions within the Latvian public sector, who are responsible for overseeing strategic processes and driving digital transformation on a daily basis.

To celebrate this achievement, on January 16, the graduates received their diplomas during a graduation ceremony and received encouraging words for continuing their work on advancing digital development in public administration.

The graduates completed an intensive study program equivalent to two master’s level courses, which included academic writing and project presentations under the guidance of internationally recognized professors. The first course, "Digital Transformation in Public Organisations", was led by Professor Wim Vanhaverbeke from the University of Antwerp, while the second, "Information Society Concepts and Principles", was taught by professors from Tallinn University of Technology, offering an in-depth interdisciplinary perspective.

During the graduation ceremony, the Director of the State Digital Development Agency, Jorens Liopa, congratulated the graduates, stating: “This is a time when technological development demands that we have the courage to make decisions that are not always easy. The course graduates are the leaders who will help Latvian society confidently move forward into the digital age. May this program become the foundation for new and bold projects that will serve the public!”

Dean of RTU’s Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management (FEEM), Jānis Caune, expressed: “Academic education provides the opportunity to acquire systematic knowledge that promotes long-term thinking and strategic planning at the national level. We believe that the knowledge gained in these courses will be an investment not only in the graduates' professional development but also in the well-being of society as we move towards a more efficient and modern public administration.”

The courses are an important part of RTU FEEM’s collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia. They were implemented as a pilot project, during which significant insights and feedback were gathered regarding the course content, methods, and competencies achieved. This information will be used in development of RTU’s new master’s level program "Digital Public Governance," which will address the challenges of digital transformation in public administration and combine technological, social, and legal knowledge.
