This year’s event was particularly special, as it was the third TEDx event at RTU, but the first to be conducted entirely in Latvian. This change was made to empower local voices and foster a deeper connection with the Latvian-speaking audience. Additionally, the event was organized specifically for high school students—young individuals poised to shape Latvia's future.
"In a time when many are navigating unforeseen changes and reflecting on their future, the “YOU 2.0” afternoon offered valuable insights on how to adapt and reshape one’s future," explained project manager Mārtiņš Labāns. "We invited young people because, as they approach the end of high school, they face numerous important decisions. However, the themes explored were relevant to all ages. Whether participants attended in person or followed online, the event served as a powerful source of inspiration."
For the students attending in person, as well as those tuning in online, the event was a day filled with thought-provoking ideas and personal stories. Thirteen speakers shared their experiences of growth, change, and the uncomfortable truths that have shaped their paths to becoming better versions of themselves. Some spoke candidly about overcoming health and mental well-being struggles, while others offered insights into career development, from artificial intelligence and business to inspiring stories of how they found their passion and built careers they love.
Dean of RTU FEEM, Jānis Caune, emphasized the importance of informal education in young people’s development: “Events like this highlight the value of learning beyond the traditional classroom. This platform allows young people to realize their potential and gain encouragement to tackle life’s challenges. I am proud that Riga Technical University is part of this unique event, and I invite young people to pursue their studies here because, as the speakers reminded us, what you study is just the beginning of your education.”
