Tallinn University of Technology Economist Receives Estonian National Research Award

Professor Karsten Staehr from the TalTech School of Business and Governance, Estonia, has received the Estonian National Research Award in the field of social sciences.

The Estonian national science prizes were established in the early 1990s, with the first awards granted in 1991. Since their inception, the awards have recognised brilliant and outstanding scientific achievements across disciplines. 

Professor Staehr was awarded for his cycle of works “Macroeconomic Causes and Consequences of Europe’s Transformation”, which analyses economic growth, inflation, and macroeconomic policy across European countries, including Estonia. 

He is one of the most influential economists in Estonia and also serves as a Leading Research Fellow at the Bank of Estonia. His research is characterised by strong empirical methodology and international visibility, with publications in leading academic journals. His work has consistently contributed to economic policy debates in Estonia, particularly in the areas of fiscal policy and economic development. In addition, he has played an important role in educating future economists and advancing the internationalisation of economic research.
