Kristjan Liivamägi, Senior Lecturer at the TalTech School of Business and Governance at Tallinn University of Technology, has been appointed Estonia’s financial literacy ambassador to the European Union. The appointment was made by the Estonian Ministry of Finance as part of the European Commission’s initiative to strengthen financial literacy across EU Member States.

Only two ambassadors were selected to represent Estonia in the new EU-wide network, with Liivamägi being one of them. The appointment highlights Estonia’s strong expertise in financial literacy and recognises leading experts who can promote responsible financial decision-making across Europe.

Kristjan Liivamägi is an economist at TalTech School of Business and Governance and a widely recognised lecturer, financial literacy educator and author in Estonia. Through his teaching, public engagement and media contributions, he has played an important role in promoting investment knowledge and responsible financial decision-making.

His work has received several national recognitions. Liivamägi was named Investor of the Year 2022 by Äripäev, Estonia’s leading financial newspaper, and Financial Literacy Teacher of the Year 2023 in the Rahatarkuse Vedur initiative, an annual award by the Estonian Ministry of Finance recognising outstanding contributions to financial literacy.

“It is a great honour and responsibility to represent Estonia as a financial literacy ambassador in the European Union. I believe Estonia can serve as a strong example to other EU countries in promoting financial literacy,” said Liivamägi. “I look forward to sharing Estonia’s good practices and learning from the experiences of other Member States.”

The EU network of national financial literacy ambassadors will be launched in the first quarter of 2026. The ambassadors will help raise the visibility of financial literacy both in Estonia and across Europe, including during the OECD/INFE Global Money Week in March 2026. Their mandate will last at least until the end of 2027.
