TUL the first Polish University with international accreditation HCERES

Lodz University of Technology (TUL) is the first Polish university awarded the prestigious international accreditation HCERES (Haut Conseil de l'évaluation de la recherche et de l'enseignement supérieur). The whole accreditation process took 2 years. The university performed very well on all 6 criteria and was fully accredited for 5 years.

The Evaluation Team highly assessed the wide range of educational offer in science and technology, its adaptation to the needs of the labour market and TUL committment to a constant improvement of its programs. In the final report the attention was drawn to the wide scope of cooperation between TUL and the socio-economic environment, and to the fact that the university has developed a real capacity to seize current opportunities offered by this environment.

In the area of ​​research, HCERES appreciated the work of TUL to become an intensive research university - defining comprising scientific priority areas and leaders, research based learning, and establishing a new doctoral school. The Evaluation Team also noticed a very well-developed international network essentially built for successful students exchanges, the involvement of the academic community in building a quality culture and its awareness of the principles of professional ethics. The enormous commitment of employees, students and university partners in its activities was also appreciated, as well as the fact that the whole community of TUL shares a common vision of its strategy.

The accreditation visit took place on October 7-10, 2019. As part of it, more than 40 interviews was held with the Rector, Vice-Rectors, employees of TUL (academic and administrative), students, graduates, external stakeholders, domestic and foreign academic partners.

Professor Sławomir Wiak, rector of the University, has emphasized the fact that ‘the HCERES quality label increases the visibility and attractiveness of universities in the European Research Area. It facilitates membership of international research teams and networks, and consortia. For students and the socio-economic environment of TUL it is also a validation of its credibility’.

HCERES is a a respected international unit highly regarded by the academic community. It is a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and is also listed in the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR). It has experience in institutional and program accreditation around the world.
