Message from Dean
As I've traveled extensively to understand the essence of what makes a business school great and what defines a leading one, I took a picture in front of Harvard Business School this summer and pondered, "How far are we behind HBS?" I shared this question on my WeChat Moment, seeking advice from my network. The answers were varied: one friend proudly stated, "ZIBS is already the best business school in the world," while another suggested we are just "a stone's throw" away. Some believed the "difference is time," and an optimistic voice said, "Today is only the starting point, tomorrow will surely be a leap forward." Among the responses was a poetic comment, a verse in Chinese from the Tang dynasty by MENG Haoran, "Rivers and mountains preserve the legacy of past triumphs; it is now our turn to ascend and behold their grandeur once again." Despite the variety of opinions, if we distill the essence, it’s GRIT: G-R-I-T. For me, "G" stands for good governance, "R" for the right resources, "I" for inspirational intellectuals, and "T" for time. So, GRIT ‒ that's what I've understood from the answers in my WeChat Moments. I believe that ZIBS success is intertwined with your success, and with "Grit For Sustainable Progress," we will achieve the right success in building the premier business school from China.
